[Background]
Dash held a contest to see which pet would best suited for her after she saw her five friends on a pet play date with their friends. Fluttershy was really excited about her wanting a pet and showed her many kinds. She was looking for style, agility, strength and bravery though, so that’s how the contest started. She also wants a pet that could keep up with her flying, since it is her passion. She narrowed the field of pest down to a select few, but all along there was a tortoise that was still trying to be her pet even though she said no several times. Rainbow Dash didn’t think much of him since he was slow and everything but he didn’t give up. In the end, the tortoise, which was named tank, earned the title of her pet when he stuck by her when she needed help in ghastly gorge, the final test. To make up for the fact that he couldn’t fly he was outfitted with helicopter blades on the top of his shell so he could fly with Dash.
When Dash saved a little girl from a well, her ego started to get a little too big. She already had a fan club, and the praise just reinforced her ego. She went on to save a baby from a run away carriage that was going off a cliff as well, which just got her even more pumped. She started to sign autographs, and show off for no reason. At one point she had Spike taking down her every word. To stop this, her friends put together a supper hero named Mare Do Well. Instead of taking the praise for saving the day, Mare Do Well let her actions speak for themselves and didn’t go overboard when accepting the praise. In fact, she didn’t stick around for the praise at all. In the end, Dash unmasked Pinkie Pie after chasing her in the streets and the girls came out and told Dash what they had been doing. She learns that it’s best to be humble about your accomplishments, and to allow others to take the spot light when they deserved it.
The girls are asked to do the Hearths Warming eve, the equivalent of Christmas to humans, pageant in Canterlot, which was a huge honor. The girls had a little fight over things when they where behind the stage. Rainbow Dash was saying that she was the star of the play, while Apple Jack was trying to tell he it about the spirit of friendship, and not her. In the end the play went off without a hitch. The play was to about how Equestria was founded, and how unicorns, earth ponies and pegasus first came to live in harmony after many years of discord. It was after the play that the girls started up their fight again. Rainbow Dash complained that she has to do all of the high up chores, and asked why Twilight Sparkle couldn’t do them with her unicorn magic. The six stopped arguing though when a harsh sound came from the window. It is the same sound that came from the creatures that feed on the original ponies that founded Equestrian’s anger. In the play, the girls had shown that it had been hatred that feed the magical animals that created disharmony and the cold frigid weather that broke apart all the different kinds of ponies. Because of this lesson during the play, the girls stopped their bickering when they heard the sound, and agreed that it was better to not let silly things get in the way of their friendship.

There were lessons that Dash learned, but she seems to forget them a lot. Her large ego doesn’t seem to want to stop.
These lessons were that friendship isn’t about who can keep up with you or be the best, it’s about loyalty and tenacity when she was finding the right pet.
From her encounter with Mare Do Well, she learned that it is best to be humble about your accomplishments, and accept when others do better then yourself.
From the Hearths Warming Eve play, she learned that friendship is the most important thing in the world, and that small bickering shouldn’t be allowed to tear that apart. But again, she seems to forget these lessons a lot.
